How to Apply

All candidates must have a GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and mathematics or an equivalent qualification.

Primary candidates must also have a GCSE grade 4/C or above in science or an equivalent qualification.

An honours degree, ideally 2:2 or above (in a related subject for secondary applications OR any subject for primary applications). If your degree is not in a related subject you may be required to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) Course.

All offers made will be subject to a full DBS check and Health and Capacity to Teach check.

All candidates must have the Right to Work or study in the UK. For British nationals a birth certificate or valid UK passport will support this.

Please note, we do not sponsor student visas for overseas applicants. However, if you are currently an overseas student in the UK and wish to go on to train to teach following completion of your degree, you can apply for a Graduate Visa.

For Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship routes

Applicants require all of the above qualifications prior to enrolment and applicants require:

Employing schools are able to access levy funding (please note we do not offer a placement finder service for apprentice candidates).

Employing school (which candidate will already be employed/within) is willing to support this route.

Please note, we do not sponsor student visas for overseas applicants. However, if you are currently an overseas student in the UK and wish to go on to train to teach following completion of your degree, you can apply for a Graduate Visa. If you are already an international student in the UK, you can apply for a graduate visa on successful completion of your degree. To apply, you will need to have been sponsored by a Home Office licensed student sponsor over the course of your studies.

If you meet all of the entry requirements and can demonstrate through your personal statement that you have compelling reasons for wishing to train to be a teacher, you will be invited to take part in our selection process.

Our selection process is designed to ensure that we are a good match as a provider for you as the training candidate, and that you are ready to enter the teaching profession as a trainee. We aim to establish an understanding of your personal and interpersonal skills, subject knowledge and life experience which will allow us to assess your suitability for training. At the same time, we hope our selection process allows you as the candidate to get a good sense of what Kingsbridge EIP SCITT stands for and how it would be to train with us.

If you are successful in the selection process, Kingsbridge EIP SCITT will then provide you with a conditional offer based on the selection process outcomes which triggers the following pre-enrolment checks:

1. Identity Verification

Candidates must provide proof of identity in line with DBS requirements. Commonly accepted documents include:

• Passport
• UK photo driving licence
• Utility bill or bank statement dated within the last three months

2. Right to Work in the UK

Applicants must demonstrate their right to work in the UK by providing one of the following:

• Valid or expired UK/EU passport
• Non-EU passport with visa and Biometric Residence Permit
• EU National ID card
• Full UK birth certificate and National Insurance number
• Certificate of Naturalisation and National Insurance number

3. Criminal Record Check

All applicants must provide evidence of a satisfactory criminal record check:

• Enhanced DBS Disclosure from Protocol Education (dated within the last 12 months), or
• Enhanced DBS Disclosure with a valid Update Service subscription
• Overseas Police Check (where applicable)

4. Barred List Check

A Barred List check will be conducted as part of the Enhanced DBS check and will be renewed annually.

5. Prohibition from Teaching Orders

Checked via the Department for Education (DfE) database.

6. References

Two references are required:

• Most recent employer reference (from Headteacher, deputy head, or head of department)
• One additional professional reference
  Additional acceptable references include:
• University tutor references
• References from school placements (work-based or volunteering)
• Non-school references or character references if no prior school employment exists

7. Health Declaration

All candidates must meet DfE health and fitness requirements for teaching. Successful applicants will be required to complete a confidential medical questionnaire before being accepted onto the programme.

A decision of where to place trainees will depend on location, capacity in schools to take trainees and suitability of trainees to schools’ values/ethos. If trainees have a preference for a school, this will also be considered, but cannot be promised. Placement schools are only confirmed in the summer term once schools are able to confirm mentor availability for the following academic year in which you will train.
